Clarksville, Ark. -- The University of the Ozarks Theatre was recognized for outstanding work at the Arkansas College Theatre Festival, held Nov. 6-10 at the University of Central Arkansas.
University Theatre’s production of Fiction won the Directors’ Choice Award, thus earning a nomination to attend the Region VI Festival in Huntsville, Texas, in February.
University Theatre won the award for Best Load In, and Phillip Perez, a junior theatre major from Ft. Worth, Texas, won an award for Stage Management. Associate Professor of Theatre Bruce Brown won an award for Production Design.
The cast of Fiction, Leah Short, a senior theatre major from Port Neches, Texas; Andrew Heim, a freshman theatre major from Arlington, Texas; and Annie Mitchell, a senior theatre major from Yellville, Arkansas; won Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship nominations.
The Arkansas College Theatre Festival is a preliminary of the 40th Annual Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival. Region VI is comprised of Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and New Mexico. Invitations to the Regional Festival will be announced in early December.
