Clarksville, Ark.-William Woods University scored the game-winning goal with 27 seconds left to hand the Lady Eagles a 2-1 heart-breaking loss Monday afternoon.

Ozarks (0-3-0) trailed 1-0 after the Owls (2-1-0) scored in the 56th minute. Freshman forward Haley Gilliam responded with a goal off a corner kick to even the score at 1-1. Gilliam’s first collegiate goal came in the 63rd minute  when she got free from a defender and had a clean shot at the net. MaKenna Piha received the assist. With momentum on Ozarks’ side, the Lady Eagles played much better in the second half, recording five shots. But William Woods had its opportunities in the second half and eventually broke the Lady Eagles’ defense. With under a minute to play, Stephanie Kirvan booted a free kick from 35 yards out that Jordan McNamara eventually gained possession of and made a shot with 27 ticks on the clock.

Ozarks totaled eight shots on the day. William Woods finished with 23. Gilliam had five shots, with four those on frame. Mary Eoff started in goal and had seven saves. Codie Freeman started the second half and recorded five saves.

Ozarks will travel to Pine Bluff to take on NCAA I UA-Pine Bluff September 5.
