Clarksville, Ark.-The Eagles pulled within one point late in the second half but couldn?t get any closer as Louisiana College closed out the game with a 21-12 run and earned 77-67 American Southwest Conference win Thursday night.
The Wildcats (7-10, 7-8 ASC) started the game with a commanding 18-7 lead and then extended its advantage to 34-18 with less than four minutes left in the first half. Ozarks (6-16, 3-13 ASC) didn’t help itself by hitting just 9-of-34 (26%) from the floor in the first half, including 2-of-11 (18%) from the three-point line.
Trailing 35-24 to start the second half, the Eagles quickly cut the deficit to five points early, and eventually climbed within 52-50 after Marcus Bobb hit a pair of free throws. Ozarks later went to the free throw again where Ronnie Dodd made one-of-two and put the game at 52-51. His layup at the 5:42 mark of the second half got Ozarks within 56-55, but the Wildcats outscored the Eagles 21-12 the remainder of the way. Ozarks never held the lead in the game.
Dodd paced Ozarks with 17 points. Andrew Cummings and Jermery Victor each scored 13 points, while Bobb added 10 points.
Ozarks will host Mississippi College February 9. The game has been designated as “Senior Day” with Dylan Ballard, Marcus Bobb, Isaiah Boxell, Ronnie Dodd and Jermery Victor being honored following the women’s contest that day.
