Villines Late Three Secures 58-53 Win

Clarksville, Ark.-Freshman guard Alison Villines scored a team-high 14 points, including a clutch three-pointer with 1:34 left on the clock, to help secure a 58-53 Lady Eagles win Thursday against Schreiner University.

After a sluggish first half that saw a combined 28 turnovers and 19 personal fouls, Ozarks (4-8, 2-5) held a 27-19 halftime lead. Schreiner shot 28 percent from the field and Ozarks hit 29 percent, respectively. With Schreiner (0-11, 0-7) leading 13-12 with 5:20 remaining in the half, Ozarks outscored Schreiner 14-7 to the rest of the way to maintain momentum going into halftime.

Ozarks had trouble pulling away from the Mountaineers in the second half, but did build a 33-21 lead on a Sabrina Goddard layup with 16:26 left. Schreiner then reeled off a 11-6 run to pull within 39-35. The game would eventually be tied 47-47 with 3:39 left before Olivia Fisher scored. After another tie, Lacey Phillips connected on a shot, and then a key three-pointer by Villines put Ozarks up 54-49 with 1:34 remaining to secure the American Southwest Conference.

Villines finished with a team-high 14 points. Phillips and Ashley Teague each had 10 points. Fisher ended with 14 rebounds.

Ozarks will host Texas Lutheran University this Saturday at 1:00 p.m. The game can be heard locally on KXIO 106.9 and on the web at www.kxio.nu.
