Clarksville, Ark.-The Eagles fell behind 37-21 at halftime, but outscored the Comets 48-38 in the second half. Ozarks shot just 18 percent in the first twenty minutes.
“We just had a lapse in the first seven minutes of the first half shooting the ball,” said head coach Matt O’Connor. “We struggled shooting, we were only 6 of 33 in the first half. Our second half comeback was a result of our defensive effort and we also knocked down some shots. We competed pretty hard down the stretch.” Four straight free throws for the Eagles cut the lead to 64-52 with 7:27 left in the game. A Ricky Johnson three-pointer got the Eagles within six points at the 3:40 left mark. Ozarks would get as close as four points on a Brent Johnson lay-up with one minute left to play. “I’m trying to emphasis to work to get better,” said O’Connor. “We hope to put forth a mature and experienced effort to play our best against Austin College.” Brent Johnson led with 18 points and Gibbs scored 16 points. Gibbs had nine rebounds in the contest.
