Clarksville, Ark. --- The University of the Ozarks will present a pair of Halloween events that are free and open to the community on Monday, Oct. 25, and Tuesday, Oct. 26.

Starting at 7 p.m. on Oct. 25, Dr. Sharon Gorman, professor of music and university organist, and the University Chamber Singers will present the tenth annual Halloween Organ Concert in Munger Chapel. The following day, Oct. 26, the university’s Residential Hall Association (RHA) will sponsor an event called Haunted Housing for the local community, starting at 6 p.m., on campus.

The Halloween Organ Concert will include musical tricks and treats both scary and comical featuring organ music by Gorman and choral music by the Chamber Singers, directed by Dr. G. Mikael Lindström, with a special emphasis this year on music from the Star Wars films.  The program opens with the traditional Toccata and Fugue in D minor of J. S. Bach, made famous as a theme from Phantom of the Opera.  The Chamber Singers will perform “Welcome to Transylvania” by Mel Brooks and “We’re Back: A Halloween Quodlibet” by M. L. Ryan. The concert will also feature choral and organ music based on themes and songs from The Simpsons and Alice in Wonderland.  There will also be the usual “terrifying” mystery guests to enliven the proceedings. The concert is open to the public and there is no cost for admission.  The concert is family-friendly and costumes are welcomed and encouraged.

The Haunted Housing, which is free and open to all area children ages 12-and-under, will be held from 6-8 p.m. and will include trick-or-treating tours of several of the university’s residential halls. Children are encouraged to wear their costumes and parents can accompany their children on the tours. The escorted tours of the Halloween-decorated halls will begin in the Seay Student Center. The candy that will be passed out by students will be purchased by U of O officials. For more information on the Haunted Housing, please contact the Student Life Office at 979-1426.
