U of O to hold Winter Commencement

Clarksville, Ark. -- The University of the Ozarks will confer degrees to 20 graduating seniors at 4 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 12, in Munger Chapel as part of its 2007 Winter Commencement ceremony.

Major Gen. William D. Wofford, the adjutant general of the Arkansas National Guard and a native of Clarksville, will serve as the Commencement speaker.

A graduate of Arkansas Tech University, Gen. Wofford began his military career when he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army upon graduation from the Reserve Officer Training Corps at ATU in 1971. Throughout his career, he has served in a variety of command and staff assignments, including as commander of the 5th Battalion 206th Field Artillery and brigade-level command of the 87th Troop Command.

He received federal recognition as a major general in April of 2005, and was appointed the adjunct general of the Arkansas National Guard in February of 2007. He is responsible for all military administration transactions between the federal government and the state of Arkansas, including personnel, finance and logistics.

Gen. Wofford has received numerous awards and decorations, including the Legion of Merit and Bronze Star Medal. He lives in Conway with his wife, Jan. They have two sons.
