Clarksville, Ark. --- University of the Ozarks officials will welcome more than 200 new students to campus on Thursday, Aug. 20, for New Student Orientation as the university sets to begin its 175th academic year.
The university’s residence halls will open on Aug. 20, and New Student Orientation will begin with the annual President’s Picnic that evening at the President’s Home. Classes begin on Tuesday, Aug. 25.
New Student Orientation will include a welcome ceremony at 10 a.m. on Aug. 21; the New Student Matriculation Ceremony at 5:30 p.m., Aug. 21; and small group sessions for parents and students on Saturday, Aug. 22. There will also be numerous other activities and entertainment throughout the weekend to help students and parents become acclimated to college life.
Other important dates for the Fall 2009 Semester at U of O include: Family Weekend, Oct. 9-10; Fall Break, Oct. 29-30; last day to drop classes, Nov. 10; Thanksgiving Break, Nov. 25-27; last day of regular classes, Dec. 11; final exams, Dec. 14-17; and Fall Commencement, Dec. 16.
The university will celebrate its 175th birthday during the 2009-2010 academic year. U of O’s roots date back to the fall of 1834 when Cane Hill School was opened in the Northwest Arkansas community of Cane Hill. The college moved to Clarksville in 1891.
