Clarksville, Ark.--The U of O softball team traveled to Conway on February 24 to take on Hendrix College and came away with a 5-3 win and a 7-7 tie.
Ozarks (1-0-1) out hit Hendrix (0-1-1) 11-8, but had to make a late-inning rally to collect their first win of the season in the first game of their double-header. Tied at 3-3 in the top of the seventh inning, freshman Chelsea Joslin led off the inning with a double. Junior Erica Newell then singled in sophomore Tiffany Armstrong, who was pinch running for Joslin. Freshman Jessica Pianalto followed with a double to score Newell and gave Ozarks a decisive 5-3 lead. Sophomore pitcher Chanceree Catlett then faced five batters and did not allow a run in the final inning to end the contest. Joslin, Newell, Shannon Rainbolt, Kayla Reedy and Kara Bartholomew each collected two hits in the game. Joslin blasted her first home run of the season in third inning with a solo shot. Catlett (1-0) received the win after pitching a complete game and striking out three. The day’s second game ended in a 7-7 tie due to darkness. Ozarks again made a late-inning comeback to tie the contest, but the game was called after six innings of play. Hendrix held a 7-2 lead after four innings behind a four-run third inning. The Lady Eagles then scored five runs in the top of the fifth to even the contest. In the inning, Ozarks recorded five hits, with Newell tallying two RBI and Bartholomew, Jodie Clark and Brooke Grice each notching one RBI. Grice, Joslin and Clark all had two hits in the game. Dana Marvin pitched five innings and had three strikeouts.
