Clarksville, Ark. --- University of the Ozarks honored six faculty and staff members with awards during the 2011 Board of Trustees' Awards Banquet in April.

The annual awards, sponsored by the Board of Trustees, are voted on by University personnel and honor faculty and staff members for the 2010-2011 academic year.

The 2011 Bagwell Outstanding Faculty Awards went to Dr. Doug Jeffries, professor of biology and environmental studies, and Dr. Bruce Elmore, professor of physical education. Jeffries has taught at Ozarks since 1991 and is known for his tree-planting efforts around campus. Elmore, who has taught at Ozarks since 1988, also won the Bagwell award in 1990. He recently resigned from his position at Ozarks to take a teaching position at Shenandoah University in Virginia. The Bagwell Awards are named in memory of long-time trustee Richard Bagwell and his wife Katherene.

The 2011 Alvin C. Broyles Outstanding Professional Staff Award was presented to Debbie Eldridge and Patrick Morgan. Eldridge is the office manager for the Humanities and Fine Arts Division, and Morgan is an access services librarian for Robson Library. Broyles was an alumnus, former trustee and long-time supporter of Ozarks.

The 2011 Arnold G. Sims Outstanding Support Staff Award was presented to Michelle Loving, secretary for alumni relations. Loving has worked in the Advancement Office since July 2005. Sims was a former printer and pilot for the University.

The second annual President’s Above and Beyond Award was presented to Bonnie Starkey, who postponed retirement to serve as interim director of Student Support Services. The President’s Above and Beyond Award was started in 2010 by President Dr. Rick Niece to honor a faculty or staff member who goes "above and beyond." Jeffries was the first recipient of the award last year.

The University also recognized employees who hit milestone anniversaries during the 2010-11 year with service awards. Among those who received service awards were Janice Blackard, library technician, who celebrated her 35th year at Ozarks; and Francie Kenner, postmaster, and Jeanette Willis, safety, grounds and custodial manager, who both celebrated 25 years at Ozarks.
