Clarksville, Ark.-University of the Ozarks sophomore defender Travis Leach was named the American Southwest Conference men?s soccer Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
The 5-foot-11, 165-pound Denton, Texas, native provided Ozarks with strong backline defense in a pair of games at the Kyle Rote Jr. Invitational over the weekend. Leach helped Ozarks to a 1-0-1 record in the invitational and was named tournament Defensive Most Valuable Player for his outstanding play. Leach, who also made the All-Tournament Team, helped the Eagles post a shutout against host team Sewanee and then was instrumental in leading the Eagles back from a 4-1 second half deficit against Berry College. Leach scored one goal against Berry College.
Leach has started in 17 career matches at Ozarks.
He was named to the All-District First Team his senior season at John Guyer High School.
Ozarks (2-0-1) will host Hendrix College September 11 and Williams Baptist College September 14.
