Clarksville, Ark.-East Texas Baptist University was awarded and converted a penalty kick in the 97th minute to escape with a 3-2 overtime win against the Eagles Thursday in American Southwest Conference action.
The Tigers (2-3-0, 1-1-0 ASC) found themselves in a fortuitous overtime circumstance when a hand ball was called in the box against the Eagles. Even though it appeared the shot hit off the side of an Ozarks’ player, East Texas Baptist’s Juan Ramirez took advantage by connecting on the game-winner. Ozarks found itself in trouble late in the match trailing 2-0 after 75 minutes of play. But the Eagles mounted a comeback when Shaun Keane headed a ball in off an Eloy Salgado free kick in the 76th minute. Keane evened the score 2-2 in the 79th minute when he banged home a penalty kick. The Eagles had three shots in overtime, but couldn’t come away with a goal. Ozarks outshot the Tigers 16-12 in the match, but were unable to overcome a slow start. Salgado had six shots for Ozarks.
