Marshall, Texas-East Texas Baptist?s Christian Garcia scored four goals, including three in the second half, to propel the Tigers past Ozarks 4-2 Saturday in American Southwest Conference play.
Garcia’s impressive night began when he scored in the first minute of action. The Eagles (6-8-0, 5-5-0 ASC) answered when Guido Salas netted a goal in the 11th minute on an assist from Tony Santoro. Ozarks out shot the Tigers (4-10-0, 4-5-0 ASC) 9-6 in the first half, but the score remained 1-1 after 45 minutes of play. Garcia then scored back-to-back goals to push the Tigers lead to 3-1. The Eagles scored in the 87th minute on a Santoro goal to narrow the deficit to 3-2.
However, Garcia put the match out of reach when he connected on his fourth goal in the 89th minute.
The Tigers held a 19-17 shots advantage, but were forced into making seven saves during the match.
Ozarks will host Texas-Tyler October 20 and Concordia University Texas October 22.
