Three Join Physical Plant

The University of the Ozarks’ physical plant has announced the hiring of three new employees.

(Pictured from left) Nate Walters, Jason Baumgartner and Butch Thomas all began working at the University on Jan. 2. Walters and Thomas are groundskeepers and Baumgartner is a maintenance technician.

Walters, who has worked at the University through a temporary service since September, was born and raised in Clarksville. He is a 2023 graduate of Clarksville High School and previously worked at Baldor. His father, Eric Walters, is the landscape and grounds supervisor at the University. In his spare time, Walters enjoys gaming and mechanics.

A native of Scranton, Ark., Baumgartner has a degree in fish and wildlife from Arkansas Tech University and previously worked with the Arkansas State Parks for nine years. He also studied electronics and served in electronics maintenance for 10 years. His wife, Jessica, is the assistant director of human resources at Ozarks. They have one daughter and son-in-law, Morgan and Brandon Baker. In his spare time, Baumgartner enjoys hunting, fishing, watching sports and fixing things.

Thomas is a native of Clarksville and owned and operated Thomas Lawn Care, LLC, for the past 20 years. He also previously worked in retail and management with Walmart and other local businesses. He and his wife, Melissa, have five children, Kadin, Madison, Lane, Koltin and Liam. Thomas enjoys spending time with his children on either the baseball field, football field or in the basketball gym.
