Clarksville, Ark.-The men's and women's tennis teams participated in the American Southwest Conference Singles/Doubles Championships held in Tyler, Texas, on September 16-17.
Ozarks improved from last year’s performance, according to head coach Luc Godin. Shane Newman won the men’s singles flight #8 championship with a 7-5, 6-2 win over UT-Tyler’s Steven Ryan. In doubles play, Zack Schiff and Lee Short combined to defeat a pair of McMurry competitors 9-7. Josue Alaya and Peter Skarda also won in doubles play, defeating a Concordia-Austin duo 8-0. The ASC Singles/Doubles Championships have been played in late February for several seasons, but was moved to the fall by request of the conference coaches. The University of Texas at Tyler hosted the weekend’s event, with tournament play conducted at UT Tyler, Tyler Junior College and the Tyler Tennis and Swim Club facilities. Ozarks will travel to Conway to face Hendrix College on October 8 for men’s and women’s play.
