Clarksville, Ark. -- Three University of the Ozarks students recently took part in the March Meltdown 5K race in Tulsa, Okla., to benefit the Oklahoma Burn Camp Scholarship Fund and the Tulsa District Dietetic Association.

Quinn Glass, a junior political science major from Palestine, Texas; Jessica Peden, a junior psychology major from Green Forest, Ark.; and Kari Wood, a senior undecided major from Fischer, Texas; participated in the race. Peden and Wood are members of U of O’s Beta Sigma Kappa, which incorporates Phi Beta Lambda, Students in Free Enterprise and Johnson County Rural Fire District #1 Fire Corps organizations. The run qualified as an official Fire Corps activity. “It was a great opportunity to expand traditional borders of the Fire Corps’ activities from fire prevention education to aiding a camp for burn survivors,” Wood said. The three were interviewed on Tulsa’s Channel 2 News and were recognized as being the only runners in the event not from Oklahoma. The race attracted 96 runners. Wood and Glass placed second and sixth, respectively, in their age divisions.
