Strong First Half Propels Choctaws

Clarksville, Ark.-Mississippi College's Michael Cooper scored three goals, two of which came in the first half, to lead the Choctaws to a 5-1 victory over the Eagles in American Southwest Conference play Thursday in Jackson, Mississippi.

Cooper struck early in the match when he connected on a shot in the 9th minute. With the Choctaws (4-1-2, 1-0-2) holding a 2-0 lead, Cooper scored again in the 28th minute to bring their halftime lead to 3-0. In the second half, Cooper completed the hat trick when he found the back of the net in the 79th minute. Ozarks (4-3-0, 0-2-0) got a goal from Francisco Garza in the 83rd minute to break the shutout.

The Choctaws recorded 10 shots in the first half, while Ozarks had only one. Ozarks collected four shots in the second half, but Mississippi College had 12 of their own. Garza had two shots for the Eagles.

Neil Thompson and Christian Ridings split time in goal, with each recording one save in 45 minutes of action.

The Eagles will travel to Pineville, Louisiana, to face Louisiana College this Saturday.
