Spring 2023 Commencement set for May 13

University of the Ozarks is expected to confer degrees on approximately 130 graduates during its 2023 Spring Commencement ceremony, scheduled for Saturday, May 13.

The graduation ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. on the campus mall in front of Robson Library. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved to Mabee Gymnasium. The ceremony will also be livestreamed on the University’s YouTube page.

The Commencement keynote speaker will be 1980 U of O alumna Maura Figliulo Howerton. She is retired from Deloitte Tax as a managing director of Global Employer Services after providing expatriate and individual income tax consulting to multinational corporations and their international employees for over 32 years. Howerton and her husband, Brad, have been married for 16 years and have five children: Ruth Swanson, Tyler Howerton, Mida Nichelson, Joel Swanson, Jr., and Krystyn Howerton, as well as six grandchildren.

Delivering the welcome address from the Class of 2023 will be Jose Rodolfo Arias Fonseca from Costa Rica. Arias earned both a bachelor’s of science degree and bachelor’s of art degree with majors in business administration, psychology and political science.

There will also be a Senior Dinner for graduates and faculty members at 6 p.m. on May 11. A Baccalaureate service will be held in Munger-Wilson Chapel at 4 p.m. on Friday, May 12, followed by the Brick Ceremony at 5 p.m. on the campus mall. Both of those events on May 12 are open to graduates and their families.
