Clarksville, Ark.-Nine University of the Ozarks student-athletes have been named to the 2009 spring American Southwest Conference All-Academic team, it was announced by the league office on May 8.
To be eligible for ASC All-Academic honors, student-athletes must have lettered in the 2009 season, be in at least their second academic year at their institution, and carry a career grade-point average of 3.00 or better.
The baseball team placed two athletes on the team: Cory Briggs, a junior early childhood education major from Greencastle, Pa., and Arturo Perez, a sophomore management major from Caracas, Venezuela.
The softball team placed one athlete on the team: Julie Wilkinson, a sophomore mathematics major from Unionville, Mo.
The men’s tennis team placed four athletes on the team: Brandon Carlson, a junior social science/history major from Grapevine, Texas; Huy Do, a senior business administration/accounting major from Hochiminh City, Vietnam; Keith Edwards, a senior accounting major from Grapevine, Texas; and Tyler Wilson, a junior biology major from Claremore, Okla.
The women’s tennis team placed two athletes on the team: Brittany Hein, a senior political science major from Grand Prairie, Texas, and Briar Vona, a junior political science major from Earth, Texas.
Daniel Gallegos, a junior strategic communications major from Sherwood, Ark., and Emalee Pearson, a junior strategic communications major from Salt Lake City, Utah, were named Academic All-Conference as a student sports information directors.
