Clarksville, Ark.-The University of the Ozarks Sports Information Office volunteered their time at the Salvation Army in Clarksville on Friday afternoon.
The Sports Information staff, which included director Josh Peppas, assistant director Daniel Gallegos (Sherwood, AR), student assistant Emalee Pearson (Salt Lake City, UT) and chief photographer Zach Doty (Andrews, TX), spent the afternoon sorting items, hanging clothes and performing other tasks.
“It is imperative that we give back to the community, especially at this time of the year,” said Peppas. “I am proud that my student workers volunteered their time to help with such a worthy cause. We all enjoyed working there.”
Volunteers are still needed over the next several weeks for the Red Kettle Christmas Campaign, according to local officials at the Clarksville office. Those interested in volunteering can call 754-3861.
The Salvation Army was founded in 1865 in the United Kingdom. Nearly 33 million Americans receive assistance from The Salvation Army each year through the broadest array of social services that range from providing food for the hungry, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless and opportunities for underprivileged children.
