Softball Team Suffers Two Losses In Season-Opener

Clarksville, Ark.-Henderson State University spoiled Ozarks double-header season-opener with a 9-1 and 6-1 win in non-conference play at Arkadelphia on Wednesday afternoon.

Henderson State (12-1, 0-0) scored twice in the first and second innings and held Ozarks (0-2, 0-0) to one run in the top of the third to hold a 4-1 lead after three innings of play. The Lady Reddies would then score five unanswered runs in the final three innings of play to secure the win in six innings. Ozarks’ lone run of the contest came when Jessica Pianalto doubled in Kara Bartholomew. Bartholomew reached base on a single and then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Dara Clark. The Lady Eagles finished the game with four hits. Bartholomew paced Ozarks with a 2-for-2 performance at the plate. Dana Marvin (0-1) took the loss after pitching five innings. She had thee strikeouts. In game two, the Lady Eagles scored first after Brooke Grice singled in Clark. Clark led off the inning with a walk and then stole second to put herself in scoring position. Pianalto furthered Clark along with a sacrifice bunt. Ozarks, however, would go scoreless through the next six innings of play while Henderson State would put up six runs in the first four innings. The Lady Eagles’ bats came alive in the second game as they out hit the Lady Reddies 9-8. Grice and Danielle Dirks each collected two hits for Ozarks. Chanceree Catlett (0-1) took the loss after pitching three innings. Andrea Mitchell came in relief and allowed only one hit in three innings of work. The Lady Eagles travel to Farmers Branch, Texas, for the American Southwest Conference First Pitch Tournament held March 3-4. Ozarks will face Schreiner University and Sul Ross State University on Friday and then take on Concordia-Austin and Texas Lutheran University on Saturday.
