Softball Team Splits With UT-Dallas

Clarksville, Ark.-The Lady Eagles came back from a tough game one loss to pick up a 7-4 American Southwest Conference road win in game two against UT-Dallas Tuesday.

In game one, Ozarks (5-21, 3-9) had a comfortable 8-4 lead going into the bottom of the sixth inning, but UT-Dallas (5-21, 2-12) roared back and scored seven runs, completing a 11-8 comeback win.

Ozarks had already built a 2-0 lead after two innings, and the Lady Eagles added two more in the third from RBI’s by Danielle Dirks and Kelsey Stephens. The Comets, however, rallied for four runs in the bottom half of the inning to tie the score 4-4. Ozarks took back the lead, 6-4, in the fourth on a Kayla Harris sacrifice fly and a Cassie Saorrono RBI single. Ozarks appeared to put away the Comets in the sixth, plating a pair of runs to go up 8-4. In that inning, Saorrono singled in a run and Sarah Otteman doubled in a run. But the lead wouldn’t last long as UT-Dallas put seven runs on the board to secure a come-from-behind win.

Dirks led Ozarks with a 3-for-5 performance at the plate. She also drove in a pair of runs. Otteman, Saorrono and Colbey Russo each had two hits.

Stephany Henson (2-12) tossed five and two-third innings to take the loss.

Ozarks pounded out 14 hits in game two and scored a decisive four runs in the fourth behind a Julie Wilkinson two-run single to secure the game. Also in the inning, Emily Burns singled in Dirks and Stephens recorded an RBI double to push Ozarks ahead 5-3. In the fifth, Burns again cashed in a run with a double. UT-Dallas got the run back in the bottom half of the inning, but Ozarks answered with a sacrifice fly in the sixth to make it 7-4.

Wilkinson finished 2-for-3 with 3 RBI. Dirks hit 3-for-4 and Burns went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI.

Kelsey Mefford (1-4) pitched four innings to receive the win. Kelsea Morris went the final three innings to receive the save.

The Lady Eagles will host Louisiana College April 9 and April 10.
