Softball Team Splits With LeTourneau

Clarksville, Ark.--The U of O softball team split with LeTourneau University in a four-game series over the weekend.

Ozarks (9-24-1, 5-19) dropped the first game of the conference series on Friday, 1-2, but came out on top 11-4 in the second game. On Saturday, the Lady Eagles lost 6-7 in game one, but picked up a 12-0 win in the second game. On Friday, Ozarks had a 1-0 lead through five innings, but LeTourneau (12-22, 6-18) came up with two runs in the bottom of the sixth to gain a 2-1 victory. The Lady Eagles had five hits in the game, with Erica Newell and Kara Bartholomew each collecting two hits. Chanceree Catlett (4-13) received the loss. In game two on Friday, Ozarks blasted LeTourneau 11-4 behind a four-run first inning. With Ozarks leading 7-4, the Lady Eagles added four more runs in the sixth to finish off LeTourneau. Ozarks knocked out 11 hits in the game, with Newell finishing 3-for-5. Dana Marvin (5-10) received the win. She had eight strikeouts in the contest. Ozarks started Saturday’s first game with a 3-0 lead going into the bottom of the third inning, but LeTourneau stormed back to take a 7-6 victory. The Lady Eagles left 11 runners on base and were held scoreless in the final two innings of action. Jessica Pianalto, Chelsea Joslin, Bartholomew and Newell each had two hits. Marvin received the loss. In the series final game on Saturday, Ozarks exploded for ten runs in the first inning in route to a 12-0 shutout of LeTourneau. The Lady Eagles connected on eight hits in the inning and capitalized on three Letourneau errors to put the game out of reach early. The highlight of the inning was a three-run home run by Brooke Grice. It was her first of her career. Bartholomew, Joslin and Devon Bottoms each had two hits. Catlett pitched her second shutout of the season with the win. The Lady Eagles host Louisiana College in a four-game series on April 22-23.
