Softball Team Opens Season With Sweep

Clarksville, Ark.-The Lady Eagles are off to a strong start to the 2012 season after posting a pair of wins at the University of Dallas Tournament Saturday in Irving, Texas.

Ozarks (2-0) opened the tournament with a 9-5 win against Howard Payne University (2-5) Saturday. Ozarks’ offense pounded out 14 hits and broke a 4-4 tie in the third with a five-run fourth inning. The Lady Eagles collected five hits in the fifth. With Ozarks trailing 4-2 after two innings, Kelsey Stephens blasted a two-run homer to even the score in the bottom of the third. Ozarks starter Amber Rollins (3-0) went the distance and struck out 10 to receive the win. Molly Bowman and Reagan Littlefield each went 3-for-4 in the game.
    
In game two Saturday, the Lady Eagles raced out to a 6-0 lead after two innings and Tabitha Porter threw a one-hitter to secure a 10-2 victory against Rust College (0-2). Leading 2-0, Ali Mathis hit a bases loaded triple to give Ozarks a commanding 5-0 lead. Heather Roberts would score on a passed ball later in the inning. Ozarks added a run in the fourth and a run in the fifth to complete the run-rule win.
    
Porter (1-0) kept the Rust offense off-balance all game as she fanned seven over five innings. She was not charged with an earned run in her first win of the season.
    
Seven different players recorded one hit for Ozarks. Mathis drove in four runs.
