Softball Team Moves To 4-0

Clarksville, Ark.-The Lady Eagles got a two-hit pitching performance from Brittany Thompson and then used a four-run first to finish Friday's American Southwest Conference First Pitch Tournament with a 2-0 record.

In game one against Sul Ross State (0-6), Ozarks (4-0, 0-0) pounded out 16 hits, and Thompson struck out six in five innings to push the Lady Eagles to a 13-1 victory. Sul Ross led 1-0 after two frames, but the Lady Eagles exploded for seven runs on six hits in the top of the third. Nicole Ashley, Chelsea Joslin, Sarah Otteman, Danielle Dirks, Ashleigh Roberts and Cassie Saorrono all had RBI in the inning. Ozarks followed that inning with back-to-back three-run innings. Kaitlyn Poirier highlighted the fourth with a two-run homer. It was her first collegiate home run. Dirks followed with a single to score another run. Otteman hit her first college home run in the fifth to give Ozarks a 13-1 lead. Julie Wilkinson also had an RBI double in the inning.

Thompson cruised through the final three innings as she did not allow a hit during that span to move her record to 2-0.

Otteman finished 3-for-4 with 3 RBI. Dirks went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI. Ashley, Poirier, Joslin and Saorrono all had two hits.

In game two against Concordia University Texas, Ozarks jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first. After Concordia University Texas (6-2) battled back to make it 4-3, the Lady Eagles added an insurance run in the seventh to secure a 5-3 win. Stephany Henson (2-0) received the win after going five innings. Otteman picked up the save, and helped her own cause by knocking in a pair of runs. Jessica Pianalto went 2-for-4.

Ozarks will face Texas Lutheran at 10:00 a.m. and Hardin-Simmons at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
