Clarksville, Ark.-The Lady Eagles softball team gained two victories over Eureka College (Illinois) in a non-conference double-header on Wednesday afternoon in Conway.
The Lady Eagles (9-1, 3-1) collected 13 hits while holding Eureka (1-3) to only two hits in their 11-2 win in the opener. Ozarks scored three runs in the first, second and third innings to take a commanding 9-2 lead and then added one run in the fourth and fifth inning to run-rule the Lady Red Devils. The Lady Eagles accumulated eight hits in the first two innings, including five of those in the second. Amanda Luney (3-1) pitched five innings to receive the win. Luney struck out two and gave up no walks while facing 18 batters. Kara Bartholomew led the squad with three hits and two stolen bases, giving her nine steals this season. Andrea Dewey had a team-best four RBI in the game. The Lady Eagles got a dominating pitching performance from junior Dana Marvin (3-0) in their 5-1 win over Eureka in the final game of the twinbill. Marvin pitched six hitless innings and recorded eight strikeouts to pick up her third win of the season. After walking her first batter, Marvin proceeded to strike out the next four batters she faced and then forced numerous groundouts and fly outs to no-hit the Lady Red Devils through six innings of play. Ozarks scored one run in the first and four runs in the fourth to push the advantage to 5-0 after four. The Lady Eagles’ four run fourth was highlighted by six hits and a two RBI double by Kaleigh Dees. Erika Newell and Marvin also singled in runs for Ozarks during the inning. Chanceree Catlett closed out the game for Ozarks by pitching one inning, striking out two and not giving up a hit. Shannon Rainbolt, Brooke Grice and Devon Bottoms each had two hits apiece. Dees had a team-leading two RBI. The Lady Eagles host LeTourneau University in American Southwest Conference action on March 12 and March 13.
