Clarksville, Ark.-Dover native Christie Shuffield was picked as American Southwest Conference East Division women's basketball Preseason Player of the Year in an ASC coach's poll last week.
Shuffield, a 6-1 senior center, was a first-team All-East pick as a sophomore and a second-team All-East selection as a junior. Shuffield led the conference in blocked shots (44) and averaged 11.7 points per game last season. She also led the team in rebounding per game (6.46). Shuffield is also a three-time ASC All-Academic selection. The Lady Eagles finished the last season with a 15-9 record and earned a berth in the ASC post-season tournament.
