Clarksville, Ark.-UT Tyler sophomore pitcher Stacy Shepherd tossed a perfect game against the Lady Eagles to complete an American Southwest Conference sweep Monday.
The right-hander from Houston, Texas, faced the minimum number of batters in a five-inning 22-0 win. She fanned eight to improve her record to 4-0. With a 7-0 lead after two, the No.4-ranked Patriots (28-6, 14-6 ASC) exploded for 11 runs in the third to put the game away. Stephany Henson (2-17) took the loss in her 11th complete game of the season.
In game two, UT Tyler plated four runs in the first en route to a 8-1 victory.
Ozarks (5-33, 3-19 ASC) loaded the bases in the fourth behind singles by Julie Wilkinson, Kelsey Stephens and Colbey Russo. Cassie Saorrono then flew out to center field to notch a sacrifice RBI to make it 5-1. But the Patriots wouldn’t allow another run the rest of the way. Through six innings, the Lady Eagles had more hits (8-7) than UT-Tyler and ended the contest with a 11-9 hits advantage.
Kelsey Mefford (1-9) took the loss.
Nicole Ashley, Kayla Harris, Stephens and Russo each had two hits.
The Lady Eagles will end the season with a trip to Marshall, Texas, to face East Texas Baptist University April 25.
