Kerrville, Texas-Schreiner University won its first American Southwest Conference game of the season in a 56-49 upset against the Lady Eagles Saturday.
Schreiner (2-6, 1-4 ASC) made just one more field goal than the Lady Eagles (5-4, 3-3 ASC) in the first half but held a 25-15 halftime advantage. Ozarks hit 33 percent of their first half shots, while Schreiner made just 29 percent. Ozarks held the lead for the first 13 minutes of the game only to go scoreless the rest of the half.
After a slow start to begin the second half, Schreiner increased its lead to double-digits. But Ozarks made a run and pulled with 39-34 at the 8:46 mark. The Lady Eagles continued to battle the remainder of the game and got within 52-49 on Chelsea Glasscock’s three-pointer with 29 seconds left. Schreiner went to the free throw line on its next possession and hit both. Ozarks would miss a pair of three-pointers on its next two possessions, while Schreiner would hit just enough free throws to get its first conference win.
Goddard had 16 points to lead Ozarks. April Young hit three three-pointers to score 13 points.
Ozarks will host UT Dallas December 16 at 1:00 p.m.
