Clarksville, Ark.-Schreiner University pulled off a 97-84 upset against the University of the Ozarks men's basketball team on Thursday night in American Southwest Conference play.
<#IMAGE:1#>Schreiner (1-5, 1-2) came into the game winless on the season, but had a strong second half, including owning a 24-point lead at one point, to earn their first win of the season. The first half saw the Eagles (3-3, 2-1) tie the contest at 34-34 when Habeeb Kareem hit a jumper at the 2:38 mark, but it was Schreiner that ended the half with a 43-36 advantage. The Mountaineers’ second half performance was the difference as they hit 17-of-27 (62%) from the floor and 15-of-20 (75%) from the free throw line. Five of their 17 field goals were three-pointers. The Eagles ended the contest with a 31-20 run, but it was a little too late as Schreiner owned a 77-53 advantage when the spurt began. Kareem scored 15 of his team-high 22 points in the first half. Ted Beard and Tony Daniels each had 14 points. Chris Clark had 13 points and Tony Brock had 11. Daniels had a team-high 6 rebounds. Ozarks will play Texas Lutheran University on Saturday in American Southwest Conference play.
