Clarksville, Ark.-Guido Salas scored the match's only goal in the 75th minute to give Ozarks a 1-0 win over Sewanee in the Kyle Rote, Jr. Invitational Sunday in Sewanee, Tennessee.
Ozarks (1-3-0) was coming off a disappointing 6-1 loss Saturday against Birmingham-Southern College and was searching for their first win of the season. The Eagles got it after getting a clutch goal from Salas, who had three game-winning goals his freshman season. Scott Janders received the assist. Ozarks totaled seven shots, five of which came in the second half. Salas and Janders each had two.
Neil Thompson recorded his first shutout of the season and collected eight saves.
Birmingham-Southern College finished as tournament champions, with BSC teammates Tyler Evans receiving offensive Most Valuable Player honors and Cory Gonzales receiving Defensive Most Valuable Player honors. The All-Tournament Team consisted of Cory Gonzales (BSC), Tyler Evans (BSC), Tony Crocker (BSC), Nico Reitmeier (BSC), Devon Ball (Sewanee), Will Morgan (Sewanee), Brian Maloney (Sewanee), Logan Hornbeck (Ozarks), Anthony Santoro (Ozarks), Marcus Aldaba (Ozarks), Matt Russell (Huntingdon) and Allen Clinton (Huntingdon).
Ozarks will host Louisiana College September 16 and Mississippi College 18.
