Clarksville, Ark. --- The University of the Ozarks' Stephens Art Gallery will present the recent sculptures of Russellville artist Virginia Berner during the month of March.

A former nurse practitioner for the Arkansas Department of Health, Berner returned to college and will complete a degree in art from Arkansas Tech in May. She says her sculptures focus on figurative works and come from "delving into a person’s innerspace. Everyone, everyday experiences too much heartache to carry by themselves or too much joy to hold within. The way life’s small and large hurdles are revealed in a person’s face or their posture, or in the way they hold their hands is what I like to show in my work." Berner has longtime ties to Ozarks. Both of her grandfathers attended Ozarks and both of her parents attended the university. Her father, Roger Bost, is currently on the Board of Trustees. Berner and her husband, Dennis, have three sons, Keith, Dean and Gary. Berner’s art will be on display throughout the month of March. The gallery is open to the public Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information on the exhibit, contact the Humanities and Fine Arts Division at 979-1349.
