Clarksville, Ark.-U of O junior forward Ricky Herrera was named American Southwest Conference East Division Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Eagles' last two victories.
Herrera, a 5-10, 150-pound native of Las Cruces, New Mexico, totaled seven points in two shutout wins, scoring a goal and assist in the 2-0 win at Mississippi College (Oct. 5) and two goals in the 4-0 win at Louisiana College (Oct. 7). The two-goal performance against Louisiana College marked the third time in 2002 Herrera has scored two or more goals in a game. Herrera is a two-time ASC All-East Division first team member and was voted as conference Preseason Offensive Player of the Year this season. As a freshman, he was named the ASC East Division Offensive Freshman of the Year and was a member of the All-ASC team. Herrera currently leads the team in goals (7) and points (16). This marks the second Ozarks’ player to receive conference Player of the Week honors this season. The Eagles (7-3-0) are currently in second place in the ASC East Division with a 3-1-0 record.
