Clarksville, Ark.-U of O junior forward Ricky Herrera was chosen as American Southwest Conference East Division Preseason Offensive Player of the Year in a poll conducted by the league coaches.
Herrera, a 5-10, 150-pound native of Las Cruces, New Mexico, has quickly established himself as one of the premier forwards in the conference. Last season, he earned ASC All-East Division first team and was named to the ASC All-Tournament team. He ranked third in the conference in goals (21) and assists (11) and was second in points (49). As a freshman, he was named the ASC East Division Offensive Freshman of the Year and earned a spot on the All-ASC team. He was also an All-East Division first team member his freshman season. The Eagles were picked to finish second in the seven-team East Division according to the ASC men’s soccer coaches preseason poll. The Eagles received two first place votes after finishing with a 8-1-1 conference record a year ago. The Eagles finished with a school-best 18-3-1 record last season and earned a spot in the American Southwest Conference Championship match for the second consecutive season. The Eagles are the winningest team in the ASC the last two seasons with a 33-10-1 record and have produced twelve all-conference players during that span.
