Clarksville, Ark. --- Playwright and performance artist Anna Deavere Smith will present "Snapshots: Glimpse of America in Change" at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 22, at the University of the Ozarks' Seay Theatre.

The event is part of the university’s 2001-02 Walton Arts & Ideas Series. Smith was originally scheduled to perform at Ozarks on Sept. 11, but the event was postponed because of the terrorist attacks on that day. ??? Hailed by Newsweek as "the most exciting individual in the American theatre," Smith uses the art of theatre to explore issues of race, community and character in America. She is best known as the author and performer of two award-winning one-woman plays about racial tensions in American cities --- "Twilight: Los Angeles 1992" and "Fires in the Mirror." ??? In "Snapshots," Smith presents selected characters from her plays, giving audience members a rare insight into the changing attitudes of ordinary Americans regarding race, class and gender. Her fascinating blend of theatre and social commentary will help audience members take a close look at just how far we have come and how far we have yet to go. Tickets for the performance are $10 each and be purchased by calling 979-1349.
