Clarksville, Ark.-The University of the Ozarks men's basketball team couldn't overcome a 34-point, seven three-point effort by Hardin-Simmons' Zach Pickelman as the Cowboys took a 86-79 victory in American Southwest Conference play on Thursday night.

<#IMAGE:1#>Hardin-Simmons (4-3, 4-2) took a 38-31 lead into intermission and never looked back, holding off all of Ozarks’ second half rallies behind the strong shooting performance of Pickelman. Hardin-Simmons held a 55-40 advantage with 15:08 to play, but Ozarks (4-4, 3-2) answered with a 9-0 run over the next three minutes to cut the deficit to 55-49. Ted Beard made the score 65-60 at the 7:58 mark with a three-pointer, and then chiseled into the Cowboy lead with another three just over a minute later. With HSU holding a narrow advantage over the remaining six minutes, the Eagles cut it to 82-79 on a Habeeb Kareem jumper with :49 seconds left. But that would be as close as the Eagles could get. HSU hit a lay-up with :20 seconds left to push the lead to 84-79. Kareem, Beard and Chris Clark combined for 39 of the Eagles’ 48 second half points. Kareem finished with 22 points, the sixth time he has led the team in scoring this season. Beard followed with 18 points and Clark ended with 13 points. Tony Brock finished a perfect 5-of-5 from the field to add 12 points. Clark had a team-best 8 rebounds. Ozarks will host ASC foe McMurry University on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
