Clarksville, Ark.-U of O will host the American Southwest Conference men's soccer tournament beginning today at 11 a.m.
The first match sets up Hardin-Simmons University and Mississippi College. Hardin-Simmons, the tournament winner a year ago, earned the West’s number one seed with a 8-2-1 conference record. The Cowboys finished another solid offensive season ranking second in the conference in points (7.06) and goals per game (2.78). Mississippi College brings in a 6-3-0 conference record and is the number two seed out of the East. The Choctaws, who were picked to finish fourth a preseason coaches’ poll, ended regular season play ranking second in assists per game (1.71). Friday’s second match at 2 p.m. puts U of O against McMurry University. Ozarks finished the year with a 8-1-1-conference record and have set numerous school records this season including goals (87), assists (74) and shots on goal (258). U of O has outscored its opponents 87-19. McMurry earned the East’s number two seed with a 5-6-1 conference record. The Indians, who are in their first year of ASC play, have lost by just one goal in five of their ten losses. The Championship match is set for Saturday, November 3 at 1 p.m. The winner receives an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
