larksville, Ark.--The University of the Ozarks baseball team beat Central Baptist College 12-2 and lost 3-0 Tuesday afternoon in Conway.
The Eagles (8-3) put up four runs in the second inning and five runs in the fourth to put CBC (5-11) away early in the contest. Caleb Hilton ended the game 2-for-3 with 2 RBI. Brian Heckmann was 3-for-3 with a walk, an RBI, and three runs scored. Todd Koch was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Curt Dixon (2-0) pitched four innings picking up the win while surrendering two earned runs and striking out one. In the second game, Chase Hale (1-1) took the loss for the Eagles pitching two plus innings and giving up two earned runs. The Eagles had their chances to get on the board but squandered several opportunities. Ozarks had the bases loaded in the third inning, runners on second and third in the fourth inning, and runners on first and second in the fifth inning and sixth inning, but were unable to get a single run across the plate. The Eagles enter their toughest stretch of the 2005 schedule as they host American Southwest Conference West opponent Hardin-Simmons for a three-game series this weekend and then travel to Clinton, Mississippi, the following weekend to face ASC East favorite Mississippi College to open conference play. Friday’s game against Hardin-Simmons begins at 2 p.m. Saturday’s double-header begins at 12 p.m.
