Ozarks Splits On Tennessee Trip

Clarksville, Ark.-The U of O men's soccer team went 1-1on a road trip over the weekend in non-conference matches in Maryville, Tennessee.

The Eagles (3-1-0, 0-0-0) were narrowly defeated 1-0 by Maryville College (2-1-0) on Saturday. ????? Maryville, who finished first in the Great South Conference last season, used a goal in the 53rd minute to hand Ozarks their first loss of the season. The Eagles penetrated Maryville’s defense and took seven shots in the match, with five of those recorded as shots on goal. Ron Hogsett and Jared Gordon led the team with two shots. ????? Freshman goalkeeper Brain Sarber had nine saves. ????? On Sunday, the Eagles exploded for four goals in the second half to oust Piedmont College (1-4-0) 5-0. ????? After holding a 1-0 at the half, Ozarks jumped on the home team behind Hogsett’s three second half goals. Hogsett scored in the 51st, 53rd and 80th minutes to propel the Eagles to their third win of the season while eliminating Piedmont’s chances of a comeback. Piedmont, who finished second in the Great South Conference last year, was shutout for third time this season. Gordon opened Ozarks’ scoring with a goal in the 9th minute on a feed from Jason Caskey. Hogsett then scored three straight on two assists from Gordon and one from Ryan Skelly. Chris Estep recorded the assist on Dustin Perry’s goal in the 82nd minute. ????? Sarber notched his second win of the season and had one save. ????? Ozarks opens conference play on the road when they travel to Marshall, Texas, and Longveiw, Texas, to face East Texas Baptist on September 16 and LeTourneau University on September 17.
