Clarksville, Ark.-The University of the Ozarks softball team opened the season with a pair of losses in the American Southwest Conference First Pitch Tournament in Farmers Branch, Texas, on Friday afternoon.
Ozarks (0-2, 0-0) gave reigning ASC champion Hardin-Simmons University (5-3, 0-0) all they wanted, but came up short, 3-1, in the Lady Eagles opening game. Hardin-Simmons scored two runs in the fifth to secure the win. Ozarks scored in the third after Brooke Grice knocked in Jeanne Randall. Andrea Mitchell (0-1) went the distance and struck out two. She did not allow a walk. Nicole Ashley and Stacy Simpson each went 2-for-3 at the plate. Jodie Clark finished 2-for-2. Ozarks saw Howard Payne (6-1, 0-0) score four in the first and three in the fifth to upend the Lady Eagles 8-2 in the second game. Kara Bartholomew scored for Ozarks in the first inning. Ashley recorded an RBI single in the fifth inning when Danielle Dirks scored. Stephany Henson (0-1) recorded three strikeouts. Bartholomew paced Ozarks at the plate, finishing 2-for-4. Ozarks will play University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and Schreiner University tomorrow in the ASC Fist Pitch Tournament.
