Clarksville, Ark.-Head Softball Coach Jon Janssen has announced twelve incoming players who will participate on the fast-pitch softball team at U of O.
The group includes ten true freshmen and two junior college transfers. The 2001-2002 class includes pitcher Kayci Rockwell from Gentry; third baseman Leigh Thompson from Harrison; second baseman Amie Jondro from Benton; pitcher Janae Smith from Pottsville; shortstop Shannon Rainbolt from Volonia; outfielder Jennifer Hudlow from Pocola, Okla.; third baseman Regan Brown from Rogers; first baseman Sarah Fielder from Greenbrier; catcher Kelly Bennett from Bryant; catcher Julia Nicholson from Monticello; outfielder Wendy Springer from Poyen; and pitcher Jacqueline Taylor from Bald Knob. "This class has girls who are good hitters and good athletes," said Janssen who is entering his second season at Ozarks. "Several of these players can play more than one position and this gives us more flexibility. All of the incoming players are fundamentally sound because they have played some high school softball and played on teams during the summer. They all have a lot of knowledge and experience with fast-pitch softball." Ozarks enters its second year of collegiate softball and recently split a preseason double-header scrimmage against Northark College. Last Thursday, the Lady Eagles defeated the Lady Pioneers 7-1 in the first game but lost 9-8 in the second contest.
