Ozarks Shooting Sports Club to sponsor two-day invitational shoot

Clarksville, Ark. --- U of O's Ozarks Shooting Sports Club, in cooperation with the university's Ozarks Outdoors program, will sponsor a two-day invitational shoot on Saturday, March 10 and Sunday, March 11 at the River Valley Sportsmen's Club, located in western Johnson County.

Shooting enthusiasts can test out their shooting skills during an invitational shoot sponsored by the Ozarks Shooting Sports Club and Ozarks Outdoors.

The shoot will feature two events for high school and collegiate shooters on Saturday - a 100 Sporting Clay Target Program, and a 50 Round 5-Stand competition. Sunday’s competition will be a 100 round partner shoot, open to all shooting enthusiasts.

The cost to compete in the events is:

  • Sporting Clays 100 Target Program - $55 if you pre-register, $60 on the day of the event
  • 50 round 5-Stand Program - $20 if you pre-register, $25 on the day of the event
  • 100 Round Partner Shoot - $60

Registration and check-in for Saturday’s competition will take place at 8 a.m. Saturday morning, with the 5-stand competition beginning at 9 a.m. Registration and check-in for Sunday’s open partner shoot begins at 8 a.m. on Sunday, with the competition getting underway at 9 a.m. Participants must provide their own shotgun and ammunition for these events. Food will be available for purchase at the range.

The River Valley Sportsmen’s Club is a 20-acre sporting clay range managed by Mark and Jackie Nowotny. To reach the range, take the Coal Hill exit (Exit 47) off of I-40, and turn left onto Highway 164. Travel approximately 1 mile, then turn right on Highway 352. Travel approximately 3.5 miles east on Highway 352. When you reach the stop sign, turn left and travel approximately 100 yards to reach Stonehill Road (Johnson County Road 3222). Turn right on Stonehill Road, and travel approximately 2 miles to reach Johnson County Road 3251. Turn left onto CR 3251 and travel approximately 1 mile. The entrance to the range will be located on your left.

The Ozarks Shooting Sports Club was formed in 2010, inspired by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s youth shooting program. Students in the club vary in skill level, from beginners to experienced shooters, and members take part in recreational shooting and collegiate competitions throughout the year.

"We’re thrilled to be able to sponsor our first invitational shoot here in only the 3rd season with our competitive team," said Mike Qualls, OSS club sponsor.  "We’re hoping to have collegiate teams from across the country attend, as well as students from our local high schools who are shooting enthusiasts."

Individuals who pre-register must submit their payment no later than 3 p.m. on Friday, March 9 in order to qualify for the discounted price.
