Clarksville, Ark.-The Lady Eagles clinched an American Southwest Conference playoff spot with a 82-53 drumming of University of Dallas on Thursday.
The Lady Eagles improve to 14-6 and 11-4 in the conference. The Lady Crusaders ran into a hot shooting Lady Eagles’ squad in Mabee gymnasium Thursday evening. Ozarks canned a season high 12 three-pointers in the route. Lacey Johnson and Renae Fowler each hit three treys in the game while Jamie Johnson contributed two. Ozarks hit 41 percent of their three-point attempts. “Dallas played a sinking defense to try to take away our inside game and that opened up our outside shooting,” said head coach Jack Jones. “We were able to shoot 29 three-pointers and that’s something I was pleased with. We had seven different players hit at least one three-pointer.” After holding a 37-28 lead at halftime, the Lady Eagles went on a three-point shooting spree to open up a big lead in the second half. Lacey Johnson hit back to back three-pointers in a two-minute span early in the second half and freshman Renae Fowler nailed two treys at the mid-way point to give Ozarks a comfortable 77-44 lead. “I was happy with the way Lacey and Renae shot from the outside,” said Jones. “Those girls are capable of hitting shots from long range, it’s just a matter of getting enough shots for each of them.” Johnson and Fowler finished with nine points apiece. Jennifer Goodwin had 2 rebounds and one steal.
