Clarksville, Ark.-University of the Ozarks women and men's tennis players competed this past weekend at Texas Lutheran in the second annual 'Doc' Skogman Invitational. The 150 players competing in the tournament played on courts at TLU, Max Starcke Park, and Seguin High School.
On the men’s side, on the singles bracket, Bishop Bass made it to the finals of flight C. He played against Komov from TC and lost.
Jason Morgan won a match in the consolation round robin on the first day of singles play in the A flight against Copa from East Texas Baptist University.
Todd Turner made in to the consolation finals in flight B. He played Singer from USW on Saturday and won (6-2, 6-2) giving him fifth place.
Corey Dillard won a match in the quarterfinals of flight D against Ellsworth from UTPB with a victory of 1-6, 6-4,10-4. He went on to the semifinals and lost.
Michael Skimbo fought for fifth place in the consolation finals of flight E. He won against Edmond from OLLU with a victory of 6-1, 6-0.
Greg Knaggs competed against Galvan from OLLU and won with a victory of 6-0, 6-2 to advance him to the semifinals of flight G where he lost against Martinez from St. Mary’s.
Scott Eibes won the first round match and went on to the semifinals of flight H and lost against Veck from UTPB.
Bill Blake made it to the consolation finals of flight H. They did not finish due to the rain.
Tom Lowe made it to the finals in flight “I” but did not finish due to the rain.
In doubles action, Jason Morgan and Bishop Bass made it to the consolation finals of flight A, but the did finish on account of the rain.
In women’s action, Chelsea Glasscock won a match (6-1, 6-2) in the consolation round robin on the first day of singles play in the A flight against Gaitan from Schreiner.
Whitney Lewis received fifth place in singles flight E after a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Zancketti of OLLU.
Tara Richards made it to the finals of consolation flight F and fought for fifth place against Turner from UTPB and lost.
Macie Kelley made it to the finals of consolation flight G and fought for fifth place against Qureshi from St.Mary’s and lost.
Chelsea Young made it to the finals of consolation flight H and fought for fifth place again Herrmann from TLU. The game didn’t finish because of the rain.
Megan Wallace made it to the consolation semifinals and lost.
In doubles action, Kelley teamed with Young for an 8-1 victory, while Lewis was paired with Wallace for a win in the consolation round.
The ‘Doc’ Skogman Invitational featured 150 players from NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA and NJCAA and is named in honor of longtime TLU tennis coach and former athletic director Kieth Skogman.
