Clarksville, Ark.-The No. 3 ranked East Texas Baptist University Tigers scratched out a 5-2 game one win and then recorded a two-hit 8-0 shutout in game two of Friday's American Southwest Conference double-header.

In game one, the Tigers (15-1, 2-0 ASC) used a three-run second inning to take an early lead. However, Ozarks (6-10, 0-2 ASC) made it 3-2 in the next frame after Ali Mathis recorded a sacrifice RBI and Kelsey Mefford had an RBI single. ETBU answered with a run in the bottom half of the third to extend its advantage to 4-2. Ozarks got runners on in the fourth and sixth innings, but neither crossed the plate. Stephany Henson (4-4) went six innings to take the loss.

Ozarks had trouble generating any offense in game two as ETBU allowed only two hits in the entire game. The Tigers had a three-run third and followed that with a four-run fourth to give ETBU’s starter plenty of run support. Kelsey Mefford (1-3) took the loss. She went four innings. Mathis and Colbey Russo had hits in the game.

The ASC series will continue tomorrow with a pair of games starting at 1:00 p.m.
