Clarksville, Ark.-The No. 3 ranked East Texas Baptist University Tigers posted a pair of wins Saturday to complete a four-game sweep of the Lady Eagles in American Southwest Conference.
ETBU (17-1, 4-0 ASC) took game one 6-0 and then completed the sweep with a 11-4 game two win.
The Tigers manufactured two runs off four hits in the first inning to go up 2-0. The score would remain 2-0 until the fourth inning when the Tigers added four runs. It was a tough game for the Lady Eagles’ offense. Ozarks (6-12, 0-4 ASC) recorded just three hits and struck out eight times. Stephany Henson (4-5) took the loss.
After a long rain delay, game two went the Tigers way despite Ozarks improving its offensive production. The Tigers opened the first inning with four runs, but Ozarks cut the lead in half when Colbey Russo recorded a two-run single in the second frame. ETBU led 6-2 after three, but Ozarks climbed within 6-4 in the top of the fourth behind five hits. Morgan Goates picked up an RBI single and Russo scored on a double steal to trim the deficit to two runs. ETBU then scored two runs in back-to-back innings to put Ozarks in a tough position for a comeback. ETBU retired the side in the top of the seventh to end the game. Goates and Henson each went 2-for-4. Russo led the team with a pair of RBI. Kaci Foster (1-4) took the loss.
The Lady Eagles will host LeTourneau University March 26-27.
