Clarksville, Ark.-No. 25 Louisiana College took control of a tight game with less than eight minutes to play to go onto a 78-62 win over the Lady Eagles in American Southwest Conference play Saturday in Pineville, La.
With Louisiana College (17-2, 13-2 ASC) leading 52-42 at the 11:35 mark of the second half, Ozarks (3-12, 5-15 ASC) closed the gap to 56-53 after April Young’s jumper with 7:45 remaining. The Wildcats then went on a 9-3 run to build their lead to double-digits. Ozarks would cut the deficit to single digits just once more, this time coming with 5:20 left. But Louisiana College outscored Ozarks 13-6 the rest of the way.
The first half went back-and-forth before the Wildcats eventually took a 33-28 lead going into intermission. Ozarks’ largest lead of the first half came at the 15:21 mark on Alison Villines’ shot. The Lady Eagles held a 20-15 advantage following a pair of Ashley Teague free throws with 7:15 left in the half. Louisiana College’s aggressive defensive style forced Ozarks into 22 turnovers. The Wildcats also held a 40-28 rebounding edge in the game.
Sabrina Goddard led Ozarks with 17 points. Young scored 12 points, while Chelsea Glasscock added 10 points.
Ozarks returns to action when it faces UT-Dallas and UT-Tyler on the road next week.
