Clarksville, Ark ?The No. 22-ranked Eagles finished the regular season on a high note beating Rogers State University 10-7 Tuesday at Lonnie R. Qualls Field.
The Eagles (31-9) jumped ahead 3-0 in the bottom of the first inning. Leadoff hitter David Smith reached first base after getting hit by the pitch, and two batters later Cory Briggs tied the single-season hits record as he picked up hit number 75 on the season. All of this set up Robby Finnell’s three-run bomb, helping the Eagles to an early advantage.
The Eagles pounded out 13 hits in support of the seven pitchers who took the mound on Tuesday. John Scheuring (1-2) received the win in relief going 1 2/3 innings. Junior Todd Koch tied things up in the bottom half of the fifth with a two-out, two-run blast over the Green Monster in left field.
The Eagles used a three-run seventh inning to finish the day’s scoring. Bruce Cameron picked up his first save of the season closing out the final two innings.
Rogers State falls to 29-14.
Ozarks will travel to Austin, Texas, to take on Concordia University Texas in the opening round, best-of-three playoff series. Game one is Friday at 7 pm, with game two to follow on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. A third game, if necessary, will follow thirty minutes after game two.
