No. 2 Louisiana College Powers Past Lady Eagles

Clarksville, Ark.-No. 2 Louisiana College powered past the University of the Ozarks softball team on Saturday in a pair of American Southwest Conference games at Hurie Field.

Louisiana College (24-5, 12-2) built a 7-2 lead going into the seventh inning and then exploded for seven more as the Lady Wildcats took a 14-2 victory in game one. In all, the Lady Wildcats collected six hits in the frame, highlighted by a home run by Katherine Horton. Louisiana College jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the top of the second, but Ozarks’ Chelsea Joslin answered with a solo homer to open the bottom half of the frame. Horton and Leanne Shanks each hit two homers in the contest. Kara Bartholomew went 2-for-3 at the plate. Andrea Mitchell (6-12) took the loss. In game two, Louisiana College held a 7-0 lead through five innings en route to a 9-2 victory. Ozarks (15-17, 7-11) had a productive sixth inning, recording three hits and cut the deficit to 8-2. In the sixth, Jeanne Randall had a bases loaded single and Jodie Clark manufactured another run when she was hit by a pitch. Danielle Dirks and Randall each went 2-for-3. Stephany Henson (9-5) took the loss. The two teams will square off tomorrow in a double-header beginning at 11:00 a.m.
