No. 15 Louisiana College Lives Up To Ranking

Clarksville, Ark.-No. 15 Louisiana College used a tenacious defensive effort and a dominating rebounding performance to earn a 81-56 win over the Lady Eagles Monday afternoon in American Southwest Conference play.

Louisiana College (21-1, 17-1 ASC) forced 16 turnovers in the game and jumped out to a 12-0 lead early in the first half. A Lacey Phillips’ jumper got Ozarks (12-11, 8-10 ASC) within 17-8 at the 13:13 mark, but Louisiana College took over and wouldn’t let the Lady Eagles score again until the 11:08 mark. Ozarks had trouble scoring over the next five minutes and at that point trailed 37-11. Ozarks went into intermission facing a 49-29 deficit. The Lady Wildcats collected 25 rebounds in the first half and Ozarks made just seven field goals.

Louisiana College continued to control the second half and held a twenty-point advantage most of the way. April Young hit a pair of three-pointers during a two-minute stretch that cut the deficit to 72-53 with 5:47 remaining.

Natosha Gottlieb came off the bench to lead Louisiana College with 26 points. Tillisha Givens pulled down 17 rebounds.

Young made four three-pointers and scored 18 points. Phillips ended with 10 points. Ozarks shot 27 percent from the field in the game.

Ozarks will host LeTourneau University February 17 and Texas-Tyler February 19. Saturday is both "Senior Day" and Homecoming.
